it's easy to give up an old man with superpowers
to argue with god and say that's why you're an atheist
or, in the name of god, to do what's right, what's obvious
quite clear the path when you walk along the highway
ignoring the trees on either side, the clear-cut forest just behind
the 5 a.m. birds, the dark before dawn
but listen to the helicopter overhead
hear the train sounding underground
the nothing that has everything to say
louder than any mystery or evidence
