my scottish granny used to like watching tv. it made her feel less lonely to hear conversations and stories going on around her. she didn't like too much sexual intrigue because she was a pretty conservative christian but she loved watching what she called "a nice murder". at lunchtime she would watch the australian soap operas like
home and away and
neighbours. she used to talk to the characters and give them advice or tease them, letting them know she was onto their game. she didn't believe in giving advice to real people - our choices were our business and granny liked to keep things simple.
